The psychologist huntsburgal was looking for a new career, but after a couple of years of working in the field she was tired of it.
She decided to give up her career and focus on her own research.
She became the head of her own clinical psychology clinic, and after a decade of work she was rewarded with a job at the University of Maryland.
But not all is well in the lab.
She is now considering leaving her post to run her own practice.
“I had a wonderful career, and then I had a couple more years where I was tired, and now I’m having a panic attack,” she told the BBC.
Her story of coming out of her shell has inspired other women who have come out of the shadows.
They are now sharing their stories to raise awareness and offer support.
“The truth is that women are not treated fairly, they are not given equal pay, they have to work longer hours, and they are less likely to be treated well,” says Dr Kelli Smith, an expert in workplace violence and an assistant professor at the university.
“So what do you do when you’re going through a period where you feel like your life has been destroyed, and you’re just trying to do the best you can to survive?”

If you need help coping with a relationship crisis, talk with your partner about your feelings, or reach out to a trusted friend.
If your partner feels uncomfortable or uncomfortable talking about your mental health issues, they may want to try to get support from a mental healthcare professional.
“There’s a huge disconnect in mental health care between what women need to do and what men do,” Dr Smith says.
“Men who have a history of violence and domestic abuse, and men who have been sexually abused and abused women are seen as more likely to engage in that behaviour.”
Women and girls are under-represented in mental healthcare roles, and Dr Smith believes women should have equal access to mental health services.
But she adds that many organisations don’t have adequate training for therapists and are not able to provide accurate assessments of mental health needs.
“When we talk about mental health, we talk primarily about depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, eating problems, and depression, but mental health is also a broad spectrum,” she says.
In many parts of Australia, people who are under the care of a psychologist are more likely than others to be in a relationship, or have mental health problems.
If a psychologist or other mental health provider feels they need help, talk about your problems with them.
“If they say they can’t help you, ask them what their options are, and see what’s best for you,” Dr Kalli Smith says, explaining that you can report problems to the police or to your local health authority.
“In the US, for example, the National Center for PTSD and other mental illnesses is the lead agency on mental health in the US.
It works with the FBI and state and local authorities to identify, assess, and support individuals who have experienced trauma.”

They may not have the resources to adequately assess the needs of a person experiencing a mental illness, and their work is often focused on people who may have a specific mental health condition.
